Tributes pour in for language martyrs in Dhaka

On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on Wednesday, people from diverse backgrounds gathered to offer floral tributes at the graves of the language martyrs, honouring their sacrifices.

Leaders from various social and political organizations arrived at the Azimpur cemetery in the capital early on Wednesday to pay their respects.

Among those paying homage were the families of the language martyrs, representatives from the ruling party Awami League, as well as various organizations affiliated with the Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Officials from the Dhaka South City Corporation, along with teachers and students from Dhaka University led by the vice-chancellor, also participated in the tributes.

Additionally, representatives from different educational institutions were present to honor the martyrs.

Since morning, people from all walks of life were coming to pay their respects to the martyrs. Many individuals were seen offering prayers at the graves, raising their hands in solemn reverence.

On the occasion of the day, people flocked to the Central Shaheed Minar late Tuesday night and early Wednesday to pay their respects to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement.
